Kelly Pleads Guilty to Forgery
The former executive director of the Cumberland Regional Economic Development Authority (CREDA) has pleaded guilty to forgery in Amherst Court.
Rhonda Kelly was charged last year with one count of fraud and nine counts of forgery.
Kelly faced charges of defrauding the Nova Scotia government of more than $5,000 and filing forged claims, following a 2014 report from Price Waterhouse Coopers which found $790,000 in false and questionable invoices.
In accepting her guilty plea on one charge of forgery, it is anticipated that the other charges will be dropped
She will be sentenced on June 19.
The CRDA no longer exists, as the provincial government moved to larger Regional Economic Networks to promote business growth. However, many could not see how the large networks could work, so Cumberland pulled out of the program in favour of a more local approach.
A new group called the Cumberland Business Connector is poised to take on that responsibility. The group is seeking to hire an executive director, a decision they hope to make very soon.
