Large Field for the Salt Dash
The starting line was crowded for this year's 5K Salt Dash, with 197 runners gathering in Pugwash for the HarbourFest run. It was a diverse and international field.
Meaghan Kerman of Halifax topped the 99 runners in the women's field in a time of 22:05. Kerman competes in the 30 to 39 year old category. Amherst's Jordan Hunter, an under 19 runner, was just 43 seconds behind at 22:48.
Third place went to Grace Brown of Calgary. The under 19 competitor ran in 23:16. Fourth was Katharine Fawthrop of Red Lake, Ontario in 23:26, leading the 40 to 49 group. Meanwhile, senior runner (60 to 69) Cindy Gaudet of Chesterfield, Missouri covered the course in 23:31.
Amanda Lawless of Pugwash ran 27:14 for the top finish among local runners.
Cameron Stevens led the troop of 98 in the men's division. Stevens, under 19, from Amherst, was clocked at 18:57. Alan White of Joggins was runner-up in 20 minutes flat. He runs in the 30 to 39 grouping.
Colton Caballero of Amherst was third overall and second in the under 19 group with a time of 20:11. Evan Johnson, also under 19, was fourth in 20:33. Derrick Priest of Belmont ran in 20:45 for a fifth place finish, second in the 30 to 39 category. Just eight seconds later, Bridgewater's Malcolm Pitman crossed the line, first among those in the 60 to 69 group.
David McLeod of Oxford was the top finisher among Six Rivers runners, completing the circuit in 23:05.
