Local Connection in Federal Candidate’s Resignation
The Conservative candidate has withdrawn from the federal election in Dartmouth-Cole Harbour following an accusation of sexual assault.
Troy Myers made the announcement yesterday following a social media claim that he assaulted a woman two years ago.
The claim was made by Lauren Skabar, the NDP candidate for Cumberland North in the recent provincial election.
Skabar alleged on her Twitter feed that Myers touched her, under her skirt, at a library conference two years ago.
Skabar was a library student at Dalhousie university at the time, while Myers is head of the South Shore libraries.
She says Myers promised her a job and when she objected to his touch, she claims he said, “That is no way to talk to your future boss.”
Skabar says she came forward when she learned he was running for parliament. She said she was enraged at the thought of how he abuses his power.
Myers denied the allegation and said he will defend his reputation.
Officials in the Conservative party confirmed they will not replace the candidate in the current election.
