Local Singer Releases LIVE Full-band Album
Singer-songwriter, and Port Howe resident, Christina Martin will release her first full-band LIVE album on Friday (May 1st). The award-winning album Impossible To Hold was recorded live at the iconic rock venue The Marquee Ballroom in Halifax.
Martin also made ten videos from the Marquee show public this week on YouTube. They were previously only available to her supporters on Patreon, a monthly platform that helps creators get paid for their work.
“Since the COVID-19 Pandemic I’ve had a dozen new patrons sign-up, and the support is really helping me create a sustainable career,” says Martin, who flew home from Germany with her guitarist Dale Murray right in the middle of their Wonderful Lie tour through Europe and the United Kingdom.
Martin says, “Right now we don’t know what the future will look like for live events, but with fans supporting artists this way on Patreon, the pressure is off to earn revenue solely by live performances and physical sales.”
She has also been doing a series of free Facebook Live shows with Murray from their home in Port Howe. The singer says, “This is a really challenging time for everyone. The Facebook shows help us stay connected with our friends, family, and fans around the globe during this unprecedented and challenging time. One of the ways artists can give back is by continuing to create.”
Martin added, “I’ve felt very well taken care of as a Canadian artist amidst this pandemic, and it’s my privilege to keep on track with creating and releasing music. I hope it brings people some comfort.”
Matt Charlton, founder and co-owner of the award-winning Halifax and Toronto based company Pigeon Row, tracked the journey with Christina and her band leading up to the live recording. He documented a short piece now available on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1zYqdJDwqUMdeuyizhZhuol55W26obWm. The same link takes you to all eighteen songs of Impossible to Hold — live.
Martin has been relentlessly recording and touring in Canada, the UK, and Europe, building connections at venues big and small, singing songs about loss, love, and perseverance. Her songs have been featured in films and television, and she’s performed at music festivals around the world.
