Local Volunteer Wins National Award
Norene Smiley has been awarded the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers.
Smiley, a resident of Pugwash, has volunteered in everything from soccer registrar to her current effort in helping young writers and her executive role with Communities in Bloom.
The Sovereign’s Medal is awarded to individuals who have made significant, sustained, and unpaid contributions to their community, in Canada or abroad. The medal is not awarded to couples or groups.
The Chancellery of Honours, part of the Office of the Secretary to the Governor General, administers the program and receives all nominations. Each one is carefully researched and then reviewed by an advisory committee, which makes recommendations to the governor general.
Nominations are accepted on an ongoing basis throughout the year. Click HERE to nominate someone.
