Major Restructuring in Cumberland Administration
The Municipality of Cumberland today announced a major organizational change to staff and operations that will save more than $200,000 annually.
Chief Administrative Officer Greg Herrett says the changes will make the county more efficient and more financially sustainable. He added that the moves were not simply made to save money though he acknowledged there is a sizeable savings in the administration budget.
Changes include the elimination of five current positions, the creation of two new positions, restructuring of departments, and the eventual dissolution of the Cumberland Energy Authority.
The positions of the Executive Director of the Cumberland Energy Authority, Municipal Clerk & Records Manager, and the Volunteer Support & Grant Coordinator have been eliminated. The positions of Tourism Development Officer and Manager of Community Economic Development, both of which were recently vacated, will not be filled.
A new Department of Human Resources & Community Facilities has been created which will oversee the Dr. Carson & Marion Murray Community Centre and other community facilities, recreation, planning, safety, IT, procurement, and human resources. The current Manager of Organizational Development, Allie McCormick, will be promoted to Director of Human Resources & Community Facilities.
Shelley Hoeg will be Municipal Clerk & Executive Assistant to the CAO.
Former Cumberland Energy Authority employees Amanda MacLeod and Sarah LeBlanc have been reassigned to the Administration Department.
The Department of Community Development will continue to manage community economic development and tourism, while adding renewable energy initiatives, organizational policy, and by-law development.
Openings have been created for two economic development officers to jointly manage community economic development, renewable energy, and tourism initiatives.
Mayor Murray Scott said, “A review of the organization was one of the key priorities that we had identified for our new CAO. Council is pleased to see this work begin and excited to see these changes implemented.”
The changes will be fully implemented by June 1st.
