Meeting to Reveal Details on Oxford School
The Minister of Education will reveal the extent of danger at the Oxford Regional Education Centre at a public meeting tonight in Oxford.
Engineers have reviewed the danger from faulty mortar at the eight year old school, but Zach Churchill is holding the report until tonight.
The school, built at a cost of more than 18 million dollars, was closed in late August when officials felt it too dangerous to use this year. Students have been bussed to Pugwash to share school facilities for both the elementary school and the regional high school.
Some Oxford parents have been demanding an explanation and a timeline for repair of the school.
Meanwhile, Town Council will proceed with a meeting tonight that was postponed last week. The Chief Administrative Officer says council cannot postpone again. Rachel Jones says council has a lot on its plate tonight, including issues with the sinkhole that threatens the Oxford Lions Parkland.
Town officials were not advised of the school meeting by the education minister. They only learned second hand.
Town Council meets at 6:00 this evening in the Town Hall.
The school meeting will be held at the Oxford Arena at 7pm.
