MP Announces Federal Support for Regional Hospitals
The Member of Parliament for Cumberland-Colchester announced major funding commitments to the two regional hospitals in her constituency.
Lenore Zann says the federal government approved health infrastructure funding for upgrades and improvements in energy efficiency for the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre and the Colchester East Hants Health Centre.
The Amherst hospital will receive $400,000. The project will reduce energy costs through a combination of various energy saving technologies including: variable speed drive motors and associated power and signal wiring, improved building system automation and monitoring.
The Colchester East Hants Health Centre in Truro will receive $792,000 toward the cost of upgrades to reduce operating costs, including heat pumps, heat recovery devices, and solar installations.
Zann is very pleased to see this energy upgrade funding going to both Cumberland and Colchester. She says, “Energy upgrades reduce operating costs and are better for our environment. These are important investments in our invaluable health infrastructure.”
Amherst Mayor David Kogon agrees, “As a physician, I am very happy to see this investment in our hospital. It will result in cost savings, is a greener way of operating and ultimately is a much needed support for health care in the region.”
The improvements will be carried out this year in both facilities.
