Mural Unveiled at Wild Blueberry Corner
Oxford’s ‘Wild Blueberry Corner’ came to life this morning with the unveiling of a special mural on the adjacent building.
The town and Cumberland Performing Arts (CPA) joined forces to dress up the corner with a large painting that depicts the musical and performing talents of the community.
Jada Ripley’s design was selected from a competition and she was joined by Julia Gill to produce the 12 by 16-foot mural.
The painting also tips the hat to the town’s status as “Wild Blueberry Capital of Canada with a few judiciously scattered blueberries amid the notes on the sheet music.
The unveiling was quick, with the pull of a string and a piper playing in the background. That cued the start of a number of musical performances with song and dance under the direction of Ruth Collins, the founding artistic director of the group.
Solos, duets, and a medley by the Cumberland Youth Choir provided the music while dancers followed the same format with rather acrobatic, modern dance routines performed on the lawn before the mural.
Many of the CPA youth performers were wearing t-shirts depicting previous stage productions, including Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, and the most recent effort, The Lion King, all Disney productions.
About 75 people gathered on the small corner lot to show their strong appreciation of the mural and the efforts of the performing arts group.
