Naked Firefighters Hiding Out in Pugwash
The Pugwash Fire Department has finally confessed their members have been working while naked. Perhaps that explains why you seldom see Pugwash firefighters at community social events.
While the department has protective bunker gear for use in fighting fires, their members have nothing to wear at meetings, training sessions, or community functions. Travelling about in regular street wear, they tend to blend in with the community and you don't recognize them as firefighters who serve the community.
The department hopes to correct that with a creative fundraising campaign throughout May. Each firefighter is required to raise money for a set of station wear, complete with pants, shirt, tie, and belt. Not to be confused with a ceremonial dress uniform, station wear is a work uniform that will also be suitable for public functions.
The station wear set costs $150. Rather than use department funds, they decided to ask each member to get creative. Some might just ask for help, while others might offer to wash your car, or mow your lawn for a donation.
The campaign will run for the month of May when the uniforms will be ordered. Any firefighter who has not found support will either pay for the uniform or go without. Given how long they have been naked, let's hope every member finds some sponsors.
