NDP/Liberal Alliance on RCMP Issue
A Truro based MLA has joined forces with Bill Casey in his fight to save the RCMP Communications Centre in Truro.
Lenore Zann noted the federal Minister of Public Safety, Ralph Goodale, has called for an independent review of the proposal to move the centre to Dartmouth. In the meantime, Zann says, “I respectfully request that the process be suspended immediately pending the results of the independent review.”
The MLA for Truro-Bible Hill-Millbrook-Salmon River has studied the 2017 “Report on Feasibility Study of RCMP H Division Operational Communication Center”, the same document that Casey says is flawed and biased. Zann agrees, saying, “It has several substantial errors in the data which cause me great concern as the conclusion appears to be based on incorrect information.”
Like her federal counterpart, Zann says, “This is becoming a very prominent issue in the province because it affects the safety of all Nova Scotians and as MLA for the region I think it is necessary that the process be suspended immediately pending results of the independent review.”
The irony here is Zann is with the NDP while Casey is the sitting Liberal MP. The attached photo shows the two cosily pouring over the RCMP report.
This NDP/Liberal alliance may not be as unusual as it first appears. While Casey has made it clear that he will retire in the fall, there is growing speculation that Zann will offer to run for the federal seat in the upcoming October election and that she would run under the Liberal banner.
The photo and partnership on the RCMP issue are further fuelling that speculation.
