New Florist Shop for Pugwash
The Pugwash Greenhouse and Florist Shop is hard at work preparing their new digs in hopes of opening for Mothers' Day.
Jim MacNab and Eleanor Borden purchased the MacEachern Insurance and Travel building on Durham Street and they are renovating to accommodate three businesses.
The couple will move their existing florist business from Miller Road. MacEachern Insurance and Travel will occupy smaller space at the side of the building. Meanwhile, an outdoor vegetable stand will be added as soon as weather and growing permit.
The main business at the location will be a full service florist shop with fresh flowers and plants. "But it will be more than that," says Eleanor, "We will also offer crafts, artwork, and photography." With a smile Jim added, "We're going to have Appleton Chocolates from Tatamagouche."
The business has been open for a year, but their location is off the beaten path. Jim says, "Being on the Miller Road, we don't get walking traffic. People keep telling us they didn't know there was a florist shop in town." While the business has grown in the shadows, the couple is certain the new and higher profile location will make a big difference.
A number of changes will be made in the next short while, including some yard work, a decorative fence, and a small building to accommodate the vegetable stand. The familiar MacEachern Insurance sign will come down in favour of a new marquis for the flower and gift shop.
Jim described his expansion this way, "We decided to bite the bullet and let everybody know we are here full-time."
While Jim is a jack-of-all-trades, Eleanor is the face of the flower business. She and a friend have found the perfect match between experience and doing what you love.
