New Library to Open Soon in Oxford
Residents of the Town of Oxford have been without a functioning library for several months, but things are looking up!
Oxford's Chief Administrative Officer, Rachel Jones, advised councillors at tonight's regular Council meeting, that a draft lease has been developed with the owner of the former Oxford Journal newspaper building, and by later this fall the library will be installed alongside the gymnasium that currently operates there.
Outgoing Mayor Trish Stewart said residents will be able to "check out a book and hop right on a treadmill, all in one stop."
This is welcome news to residents, who have had grab-and-go drop-off service at the Oxford Medical Centre since mid-July.
Jones says a firm date isn't available for when library services will be available again, as the space needs renovation to bring the bathroom up to code.
The CAO added there will still be service limitations due to the COVID-19 situation — but with this news, the town will maintain a centralized local library.
