New Oxford Look on the Highway
Oxford has a new sign on the Trans Canada Highway.
The sign was installed without fanfare and reports started coming in today.
The Chief Administrative Officer for the town says, “It was a long time coming,” about thirty years to be precise.
The province expects communities to update their “Community Identity Signs” about every three decades. Oxford was notified that time had arrived about two years ago and tomorrow was the deadline.
A few volunteers worked with town staff and council on the project.
The designers, Diana MacKay and Dave Spencer, were quite picky in colour selection. For example, the blue used on the sign includes the precise blue used in the town’s official promotions along with the blue from the Nova Scotia flag, while the orange matches the same colour as used in signs for the Sunrise Trail. MacKay and Spencer volunteered their time and talent.
The photo is not the sign but rather the designers’ concept.
