New Pugwash Library Ready to Go
A new library for Pugwash crossed its final hurdle today as Cumberland Municipal Council approved a tender to start construction.
Iron Maple Construction, with offices in Dartmouth and Sussex, New Brunswick, was the successful bidder for a contract to design and build the long-awaited facility.
The 2.189 million dollar contract breezed through council in about sixty seconds as the only item of business on the agenda of the specially called meeting.
Council had previously approved a budget of 1.5 million with the local library community called to raise another $500 thousand. Council agreed the project should be started immediately without waiting for local fundraising to be in place. The project is expected to be completed and open for business this fall.
Cumberland Mayor, Murray Scott, and District 3 Councillor, Jennifer Houghtaling, have been the driving force behind the latest effort to get the project back on the rails. Both will be guests on Morning Talk on Six Rivers Radio tomorrow morning at 9:05.
