Staff Reporter / Friday, January 31, 2020 / Categories: News New Virus is Now a World Emergency UPDATED STATS The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared an international emergency because of the coronavirus outbreak. The WHO calls on all countries to ramp up their vigilance and preparedness. At the same time the organization praised China for its swift and unprecedented action in an effort to contain the outbreak. The WHO says the situation would have been far worse had China not acted so openly in warning the world. China has confirmed more than 11,000 cases of the virus while 259 people have died. There are no reported cases of coronavirus in Nova Scotia and the province’s medical authorities have taken steps to prepare should the illness reach the province.
