Staff Reporter / Wednesday, May 4, 2022 / Categories: News, Communities in Bloom No Grass Mowing in May—Not a Dream Have you noticed that some of your neighbours are not yet mowing their lawns? It is all part of a growing environmental initiative to protect the pollinators which do the heavy lifting to ensure the survival of the decorative plants we enjoy and the nutritious fruits and vegetables we eat. Bees and other insects have been facing some tough times and scientists worry that environmental issues are threatening these tiny but efficient workers. Sometimes big issues can be solved with tiny steps. Pugwash Communities in Bloom has joined many other communities to promote “No Mow May”, calling on people to let the grass grow during this month to allow the pollinators to work and prosper. The Village of Pugwash has designated a section of Eaton Park that will not get mown till June to draw attention to the concept. Village Commissioners saw value in the concept but felt it inappropriate to let the whole park grow wild. Add your comments below.
