NS Helps Preserve Cumberland Wetlands
The MLA for Cumberland South announced a $1.9 million contribution to preserve wetlands in Cumberland County.
The program, called ‘Making Room for Wetlands: Coastal Carbon Edition’ is designed to revitalise and enhance wetland ecosystems.
Tory Rushton says, “Cumberland County's wetlands are a critical part of our natural heritage. The project underscores our commitment to preserving nature while enhancing the resilience of our communities.”
Officials believe wetland restoration will yield significant benefits for local communities, pointing to reduced flood risks, heightened food production, enhanced greenhouse gas sequestration, and the betterment of habitats critical for essential species.
The project will be led by TransCoastal Adaptations in partnership with Saint Mary’s University and other collaborators.
The Province also announced other sustainable agriculture and climate initiatives that will impact the Christmas Tree Council of Nova Scotia, the Agri-Commodity Management Association, and Horticulture Nova Scotia.
The various programs will contribute to a more sustainable and resilient future for Nova Scotians.
