NS Hopes to Cushion Federal Carbon Tax
The infamous ‘Carbon Tax’ will be imposed in Nova Scotia on Canada Day.
However, the Province is taking steps ahead of time in hopes of lessening the impact.
Gas, diesel, and home heating fuel costs will go up about 14 to 17 cents a litre. But the federal government also introduced a measure that requires fuel producers to make gas and diesel cleaner by reducing the carbon content.
Changes to the fuel pricing regulations were needed to comply with the federal carbon pricing measures.
The province is giving authority to the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board to determine how much of the cleaning cost can be passed on to consumers.
Nova Scotia and the other Atlantic Provinces are opposed to the federal tax but the Prime Minister has resisted their arguments to date.
