Staff Reporter / Friday, July 16, 2021 / Categories: News NS Opens Access to Emergency Alert System Nova Scotia has opened direct access to its emergency alert system for police. Previously, police had to request EMO to broadcast emergency alerts across the system. Such alerts to the public interrupt television, radio, and mobile devices to distribute the message. The RCMP and Halifax Police now have direct access. Both forces have been trained to use the system and can send an alert for police-related situations where there is believed to be an imminent threat to the public. The option is available to other police services, if they choose. Twelve alerts have been issued in Nova Scotia since April of 2020. Nine of those were police-related.
