Nurses Returning to Provincial Hospital Service
One hundred and forty-eight nurses have returned to work in Nova Scotia hospitals following the province’s $10 thousand incentive plan.
The nurses who left the service to work as casual and travel nurses, have committed to work for the next two years in the publicly funded hospital system.
The province’s Health Minister says, “When we invest in nurses, we are investing in better care for Nova Scotians.” Michelle Thompson added, "We have been clear with nurses — we need you, and we want to work with you.”
As a direct result of this initiative, 34 hard-to-fill positions — those posted for at least 90 days — are now staffed.
An estimated 55,000 nurses, healthcare workers, and other team members will receive a retention bonus of up to $10,000 in the next few weeks.
Hundreds of nurses from other countries will arrive to work in Nova Scotia's health system this year, and the government has offered jobs to all Nova Scotia graduating nurses, while adding 200 nursing seats in educational programs across the province.
