Once Upon a Time ... a Sinkhole and a Roadhouse
Many area residents mourn the loss of the Oxford Lions Club Parkland, but one local businessman saw a golden opportunity.
Mervil Rushton, known for his ability to move houses and other buildings, bought the Lions property and a new sign announces that a “Roadhouse” will soon follow.
Residents were surprised earlier this morning when a large excavator and a dump truck appeared on the scene and work began, seemingly, to fill the now famous sinkhole.
After two years of worry and speculation, could it be that simple? Could it be that you just need enough fill to secure the parking lot and return the site to productivity?
Those questions are being hotly debated today and will likely be the focus of coffee shop talk over the next week or more as official voices join the conversation after the weekend.
For the moment, Mervil Rushton has seized the opportunity, perhaps a large gamble with concern for questions of liability, but a gamble that may have an equally large reward.
Meanwhile, work continues on the sinkhole at the Roadhouse, or is that the Roadhouse at the Sinkhole?
