Online Medical Records System Stumbles
The vendor that provides Nova Scotia with an online medical records service is severing its ties with the system.
The software provider for MyHealthNS, McKesson Canada, is not renewing its contract with the province.
MyHealthNS allows patients to access their health information and communicate with their doctor. About 300 physicians and 30,000 patients currently use the service.
Doctors and patients will continue to have access to all features while the province seeks a new solution. Physicians enrolled in MyHealthNS are paid a quarterly “Technology Incentive” for their participation.
Randy Delorey, Minister of Health and Wellness says, “We are putting a plan in place with McKesson Canada and are actively working towards a new software solution, that will minimize the impact to patients and providers.”
Only three percent of Nova Scotians are enrolled in the program which the minister describes as “a valuable tool for physicians and patients.”
No new doctors or patients will be registered until the new service provider is in place.
Current users who have questions may contact the department at MyHealthNS@novascotia.ca.
