Staff Reporter / Tuesday, March 19, 2019 / Categories: News Oxford Awaits Funding Help for Sinkhole The MLA for Cumberland South says the two senior levels of government are working to help the Town of Oxford solve the sinkhole problem at the Lions Park. Tory Rushton says officials of the town have talked with provincial staff while he has held discussions with the Member of Parliament and provincial ministers. Rushton says all are sympathetic and working on a solution. He noted the province has kicked in more than one hundred thousand dollars for the next round of testing which might offer a better understanding of what is beneath the ground. Rushton said everyone understands that the town cannot handle this alone. It is beyond their expertise and well beyond their financial capacity. While the federal government does not yet regard the sinkhole as an emergency, Rushton points out the very real danger if it grows to close the Main Street or the Trans Canada Highway.
