Oxford Christmas Parade Bigger Than Ever
The annual Christmas Parade in Oxford, tonight, was the biggest on record, with more floats and activities to entertain.
A good crowd lined Main Street to applaud the creative efforts of town and neighbouring businesses and community organizations. Even the weather cooperated, a surprise, given the recent storm and widespread power outages.
Simply put, the Oxford Christmas Parade was not to be denied.
Organizers set a theme for this year’s parade, It’s a Blue Christmas, taking their cue from the town’s marketing effort to secure its position as the wild blueberry capital of Canada (if not the world).
Oxford Frozen Foods captured the award for best commercial float. The Best Organization or Group honour was awarded to the Oxford and Area Skating club. Bucks Automotive gained the best themed float, while Hair Needs Salon was honoured with the Judges Choice prize.
Of course, the most popular float, by far, was not in the running for an award. The final float of the parade carried the town’s special guests of the evening, Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus who stopped for a visit with kids at Heritage Square.
