Oxford Completes Urgent Arena Repair
Oxford Town Council gave formal approval for a $12,000 project to apply sealant to stop the arena roof from leaking.
The work has been completed by Butch Mobile Sandblasting of Moncton, the lowest of two bidders.
“It's something that had to be done,” Arena Committee Chair Tom Kay said of the project.
Committee member Brenton Colborne (attached photo) described it as a “safety” issue.“If it had rained and there was a game on, we probably would have had to cancel it,” he said, It was real bad. It was dripping right down onto the ice and taking the ice out right down to the concrete.”
Colborne said councillors approved the project earlier in a telephone poll. The work carries a ten year guarantee.
The arena was built in 1972. Colborne says the roof is “basically in good condition.”
The town has been doing upgrades to the arena of late. New LED lighting has been installed and Colborne says it has greatly decreased power costs.
