Oxford Fighter Set for First Duel
An Oxford teenager will step into the very adult boxing ring for the fight of his life tomorrow.
Landon Tower is on the card for “The Rumble at the Rec” a major boxing event at the Rath-Eastlink Centre in Truro.
Tower will represent the Oxford Boxing Club under the management of Bob Ward. The novice puncher has been training in a makeshift gym at Ward’s home.
Few boxers enter the game in a stadium match on their first outing. Yet Tower will take his 0 and 0 record under the bright lights for the test.
He may not be the only Oxford fighter in the arena. Reade Primeau, another of Ward’s young charges, is listed as an alternate in case a scheduled fighter is unable to box. Primeau has been training hard for the opportunity and says he is ready if called.
Ward says both his fighters are ready and he is confident each would give a good account of himself.
Advance tickets are available at the Rath-Eastlink box office or online. The night’s card opens at 7:00 o’clock.
Tower is shown in the photo holding the heavy bag for his teammate Reade Primeau. The photo below shows the trainers L to R: Bob Ward, Joe Ward, and Darren Mosher of the Hubtown Boxing Club in Truro.
