Oxford Growing in Numbers and Confidence
The Town of Oxford seems to be hitting on all cylinders. Council learned tonight that the town's financial report is good, the population is growing, and council hopes for savings in the operation of the arena.
Town Council anticipates a $66,000 surplus by year end, this with water line improvements, side walk repairs, and new programs in recreation.
Mayor Trish Stewart is very pleased with the recent census data from the federal government. The census figures show Oxford is one of the few communities that is actually growing in Nova Scotia.
Stewart says, “It is wonderful that while we are in a province whose population is decreasing, our town is increasing.” Oxford and Bridgewater were the only two towns with rising populations.
Deputy Mayor Tom Kay hopes the town can find substantial savings during a meeting today (Wednesday) with Efficiency Nova Scotia. Kay says switching from natural gas to propane may head the efficiency list.
Councillor Brenton Colborne added, “According to the numbers, propane is about one third the cost of natural gas.”
