Oxford Mourns Passing of Former Mayor
The Town of Oxford is grieving today at the passing of Lloyd Jenkins, a former mayor and much loved son.
Jenkins, a popular chemistry and physics teacher at the Oxford Regional Education Centre, was first elected to town council in 1980, and served as mayor for twelve years, beginning in 2000.
The current mayor, council, and town staff expressed their condolences in a prepared statement.
The statement said, “Lloyd Jenkins had an incredible impact on our town. As mayor, Mr. Jenkins was a community champion.”
A man of deep faith, he suffered a debilitating disease in his latter years, but nobody can recall a complaint. He had a zest for life and no matter how difficult it may have been to navigate his daily difficulties, Lloyd’s big smile would always light up a room, while his quiet voice would fill it with wisdom.
Lloyd as he preferred to be known, or “Doctor J” as he was called by former students, died on Wednesday. He was 78 years old.
