Oxford Needs Emergency Water Repairs
Oxford has some serious repairs to make to the town’s water supply. A break in the line crossing the Little River has drained the town’s backup reservoir on Pugwash Road.
Losing up to 200 gallons a minute, the reservoir dropped eight feet in just six hours.
However, the empty reservoir revealed serious concerns about debris and damage to the facility. The 1969 reservoir is a backup that secures firefighting pressure to the town’s fire hydrants. It also provides a reserve when Oxford Frozen Foods is at full production demand for water.
The town council agreed the repairs are necessary immediately and approved a plan for a full inspection and repair.
The Town's Chief Administrative Officer told council the costs would be born by the water utility, not the town budget. Costs associated with the water supply are covered by the water utility. In this case, repairs will be covered by the utility's reserve fund.
