Paddle Boarder Rescued Off Port Howe
Another day, another water rescue. Pugwash Fire Department was called to Beach Road in Port Howe this afternoon after a call for a boater in distress.
It turned out to be a paddle boarder who was blown offshore. One report said he was off the paddle board and suffered a little with the board in the waves.
A nearby pleasure craft was able to get to him fairly quickly, retrieving the man, his dog, and the paddle board.
Police, fire, and EHS personnel all responded to the call.
While Pugwash firefighters cover a large coastal and river estuary area, the department does not have a rescue boat, something the PFD has been trying correct in recent years.
With water rescue calls increasing in recent years, the department will seek help from the Municipality of Cumberland in the purchase of a suitable craft.
