Performance Centre Rising by the Harbour
Work on a new outdoor performance centre is progressing well in Pugwash. Construction of the replacement for the old Eaton Stage has become quite an attraction as people visit the park daily to watch it take shape.
LPM Construction of Mount Uniacke is managing the contract with an effort to employ as many local sub-contractors as possible.
The contract calls for completion of the new facility by June 15th, and officials are looking forward to hosting the annual Canada Day Gathering of the Clans as the first official event at the centre.
More than a stage, the performance centre could play host to a number of different events, including theatre, dance, visual arts, and public presentations.
While the new platform is larger than its aged predecessor, it is what’s back stage that opens the possibilities. Rather than storage, the interior is “human space”, providing facilities for performers and state-of-the-art audio visual equipment to enhance presentations to larger audiences.
The Pugwash Village Commission hopes the harbour front facility will become a new centre of attraction in the community.
