Phone Scammers Using COVID for Cover
Nova Scotia Health is warning the public to be on the lookout for a phone scam currently masquerading as a Public Health call about COVID testing.
The automated call or “robo call” claims you have been identified as a close contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. In some cases the call says you have tested positive.
The scam involves you calling a number to provide personal information.
Public Health does not use automated calls to notify anyone they are a close contact.
If you receive such an automated phone call, do not provide any information.
Public Health does use automated calls to provide COVID-19 test results. However, it will ask you to verify your identity with the last four digits of your health card and your birth date.
You will not be asked to call a separate number back to provide additional personal information.
