Mark Rushton / Friday, October 28, 2022 / Categories: News Plebiscite May be Added to Oxford Vote Oxford voters will go to the polls—virtually—on January 7th for a special by-election, but it may include a plebiscite. Oxford Council is considering a public poll on the question of garbage and compost collection. That idea was floated by Mayor Greg Henley weeks ago, arguing the town could save upwards of $40 thousand per year by closing the Transfer Station and contracting out garbage collection. Discussion of the idea on social media has been mixed, though that may not accurately reflect the majority view on curb-side pickup. Councillor Paul Jones raised the question of whether the election ballot could also include the question of pickup for solid waste and compost. Council directed the Chief Administrative Officer to look into whether the plebiscite question could be added to the January 7th election plan, so voters may be able to voice their opinions.
