Premier to Talk Toll Highway at Amherst Stop
Premier Iain Rankin will Visit Cumberland this morning for a short election stop in Amherst.
According to Bill Casey, the Liberal candidate in Cumberland North, the premier will make an announcement about the Cobequid Pass.
The idea doesn’t sit well with Tory Rushton, the incumbent MLA in Cumberland South. Rushton speculates that Rankin may promise to remove the tolls at the Pass.
Rushton remembers the previous Liberal premier made that same promise in 2017. Stephen McNeil said the tolls would be gone by 2019. Instead of removing the tolls, he extended them to five more years from now.
Rushton said, “Iain Rankin’s Liberals are just like Stephen McNeil’s Liberals. They don’t care about Cumberland County and they make promises at election time that they will forget as soon as the election is over.”
Rankin will make his announcement at a motel about 11:30 this morning.
