Prepare for Months of COVID-19 Rules
The Chief Medical Officer of Health says he begun to consider how the public health restrictions might be rolled back, but Dr. Robert Strang (shown in the photo) says the physical distancing and the limit on larger gatherings “will be in place for months.”
Strang made that announcement during a press conference this afternoon on Six Rivers Radio. He said, “We are working on a plan, here in Nova Scotia, but this is not something we can rush.”
Premier Stephen McNeil and Dr. Strang responded to reporters following news of three more deaths at Northwood Care in Halifax and fifteen new cases of COVID-19 in the province.
Of the total of 915 cases, Strang noted that fifty-seven percent have recovered completely. He also suggested there are early indications that the outbreak may have peaked in the province, perhaps a testament to the provincial strategy of isolate and test as much as possible.
Meanwhile, the Premier said, “Schools and daycares will remain closed until the long weekend in May.” Stephen McNeil said, “We’ll make a decision on the rest of the school year at that point.”
Dr. Strang noted that other provinces have begun to relax public health rules in an effort to re-open their economies, but the doctor added, “Decisions we make have to be made on Nova Scotia epidemiology and local conditions. This is going to be a slow and deliberate process. We are going to take our time to get it right.”
