Province Helps Trail Groups’ Flood Repairs
Two Cumberland trail operators — Cumberland Snowmobile Club and Sutherlands Lake Trail Groomers — will share in a $5 million program to repair or upgrade trails damaged in the July floods across Nova Scotia.
The Minister responsible for Service Nova Scotia says, “Trails across the province help us get out into nature, connect with friends, keep active, and promote positive mental health. We all want the trails we rely on to be fixed.”
Colton LeBlanc added, “Non-profit trail organizations know these trails best, and many have already begun the work to repair them. We'll reimburse them for the damage already fixed and use this funding to help others begin repairs.”
More than 45 trails, all located on provincial government land, will be repaired. More trails could be added if additional damage is identified.
Heather Stilwell, Executive Director of NS Trails, says, “NS Trails greatly appreciates the government's support for trails and for the dedicated volunteers who work so hard to maintain them.”
There are extensive trails in and around Cumberland County, but most were not affected by the heavy rains and flooding that was witnessed across large areas of the province.
