Provincial Election Day May 30th
Premier Stephen McNeil has visited the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia asking him to dissolve the Nova Scotia Legislature in favour of a general election on May 30th.
The formality of calling an election requires the Lieutenant Governor to issue a written order, known as a writ. The premier then announces the Monarch’s official representative has ordered an election.
With the writ in hand, Premier McNeil joined a number of Liberal colleagues to make the official announcement at the Lebanese Cultural Centre in Halifax.
Halifax MLA Keith Colwell jumped the gun, tweeting an invitation to the gathering, which he called, “Our 2017 election announcement / rally.”
While the premier played with the date, it came as no secret. The provincial NDP launched their campaign last week, while the Tories gathered yesterday to set their campaign in motion.
It seems the premier is last to the party.
