Pugwash Commission Seeks Citizen Participation
The Pugwash Village Commission is seeking input from residents. The commission wants to add outside members to certain committees.
One or two volunteers are invited to join the audit committee. This is a critical committee that oversees the village’s fiscal activity and financial reporting.
While financial reports have always been open to residents and discussed in detail at annual meetings, the audit committee works throughout the year with the clerk/treasurer and the village’s auditors.
The move to include citizen representation is to be more open and transparent.
Meanwhile, the commission will strike a committee to review the Village website. While the site must include certain information to meet provincial requirements, the commission wants input to consider whether pugwashvillage.com can play a bigger role in promoting the village to the world.
Activities like tourism or economic promotion are often left to the Municipality of Cumberland or to organizations like the Chamber of Commerce. The commission feels a more focussed effort is needed and will seek input from local organizations with an interest in doing more for the village.
