Pugwash Doctor Charged with Sexual Assault
A Pugwash doctor has been charged with sexual assault. Dr. Oluwarutimi (also known as Tim) Fashoranti was arrested Tuesday by RCMP.
The 63 year-old physician was released from custody on certain conditions and will appear in court January 11th to answer the charge.
Fashoranti, who has offices in Pugwash and Springhill, has faced a similar charge in the past. He was accused of sexual misconduct in Springhill in 2010. While medical authorities agreed that he had improperly performed a breast exam, the College of Physicians and Surgeons stopped short of the more severe charge.
However, the doctor was supposed to post a sign in his office that noted he must be chaperoned when examining a female patient.
That requirement is still in effect but the complainant in the current charge said no such sign exists in his office.
Police are concerned there may be other victims and are asking any other affected patients to reach out by calling the RCMP at 902-667-3859. They and the woman who complained in this case want to ensure that no other patient is suffering in silence.
