Pugwash Firefighters Welcome Support Service
A new volunteer community group has stepped forward to support the Pugwash Fire Department.
The local firefighters heartily accepted a proposal, last night, to adopt the Pugwash Fire Department Support Service, a kind of modern day auxiliary.
The support Service was born out of the aftermath of Hurricane Fiona when the Pugwash firehall offered warmth and a place to gather during an extended power outage.
While firefighters were busy with multiple emergencies, they were short-handed in staffing the facility.
A number of residents not only filled the gap, they added to the services with hot meals and round the clock support.
When the emergency ended those volunteers suggested a formal organization be formed to prepare for future emergencies.
Barry Stahls will chair the new organization. The leadership team includes Dianne Stahls, Marilyn Love, and Terry Henry.
The four will seek volunteers to support the efforts of firefighters and complement the department’s community services, freeing firefighters to focus on the emergency tasks for which they train.
Volunteers are welcome. To help, email madtechone@yahoo.com or phone Barry Stahls at 902-302-1900.
