Pugwash Fishing Tourney a Win/Win Again
The 27th annual Pugwash Fire Department Fishing Tournament has gone into the record books as another success.
The two day tourney helped fund the purchase of a rescue boat and now the goal is an off-road rescue vehicle.
Something different this year was the first ever winner in the striped bass division. The event hade been open only for mackerel fishing for twenty-five years, but a bass competition was introduced last. The only problem—nobody caught one that qualified within the province’s required size regulation.
That changed this year, but just barely. Brandon Boudreau caught the old allowable bass at 2.4 pounds, and walked away with an outboard motor as the first prize.
The mackerel division was as competitive as ever with plenty of fish to weigh. First prize went to Jason Trenholme with a 1.13 pounder. Nick Roddick’s one pound catch was good for second place, while Ron Allen was third with a catch weighing .97 pounds.
The special category, open only to firefighters, was won by Shane Theale of the River Hebert Fire Department.
