Pugwash Fishing Tourney Enjoys 29th Success
The Pugwash Fire Department hosts a fishing derby to raise much needed funds and yesterday, they completed the 29th edition of their annual Mackerel Tournament.
They have always enjoyed consistent crowds, rain or shine, and support from community sponsors goes over the top.
For the participants, it is all about bragging rights, and this year that honour goes to Clifford Allen who captured the heaviest fish at .536 kilograms. Lucas Comeau was close behind with a catch of .515 kilos, while the .490 mackerel gave Corey MacLellan third spot.
A special category is the the heaviest fish caught by a firefighter, and once again that honour goes to John Murray of Pugwash who wrestled in a .450 mackerel.
Pugwash firefighters use the fishing tournament to raise funds for major projects. In recent years that led to the purchase of their water rescue boat, an off-road wildfire vehicle, and the current campaign will help build a new addition near the Pugwash firehall.
