Pugwash Launches New Church Concept
Pugwash will welcome a new church on Sunday with the launch of the Hope Centre Community Church (HCCC) at the former Pugwash Baptist Church.
It is a new partnership with the church and Hope Centre Ministries forging a new approach to community and a return to the original purpose for Christian gatherings—to serve, not to be served.
It is a kind of deja-vu, as Pugwash Baptist played a key role in founding what became Six Rivers Hope Centre Ministries. The original online community newspaper and radio station was born in the basement of the Durham Street church. The Hope Centre on Church Street became the home of the community based news service and online ministry.
The Community Church will provide the in-person worship and community activities, while the studios on Church Street will offer the online services. In fact, a discipleship group founded at the church has continued to gather online during the COVID pandemic and now brings people together from Cape Breton to the South Shore and many points in between.
Bill Martin, the former pastor of the Baptist Church is returning to lead the new concept. Services at Hope Centre Community Church will be held Sunday mornings at 10:30, while the online version airs on Zoom at 2:15 Sunday afternoon. Details are available at hopecentre.ca.
