Pugwash Lines up for COVID Vaccination
About fifty people lined up outside the Pugwash Fire Hall yesterday waiting for a COVID vaccination.
The line from the door twisted its way back to the roadway on Highway 6 while cars filled parking spots along the road and across the street at the motel.
It was a drop-in clinic, meaning no appointment necessary—both a blessing and a curse.
Interest in vaccination, especially the booster shot, is running high as the Omicron variant of the coronavirus is running amuck across the world, including in Nova Scotia where new daily COVID cases are reported today at numbers not seen since the pandemic began.
The pace of planned vaccine clinics cannot keep pace with the demand. Appointments for local clinics are filled as quickly as they are posted online, leaving people to travel to Amherst, Truro, or beyond—or stand in the cold and take your chances.
While local residents were lined up in Pugwash yesterday, the province announced another 511 new cases, adding to a now long-string of days with 500 plus.
As of yesterday, there are an estimated 5,106 active cases of COVID-19 in Nova Scotia. Of those, 25 people are in hospital, including three in ICU.
