Pugwash Proposes New Speed Limit in Busy Zone
The Pugwash Village Commission wants drivers to slow down as they pass the area of the Pugwash Fire Department.
The commissioners agreed last night to request a change to the speed zones on the southern border of the village along Highway 6.
Commissioner Bill Martin raised the concern noting a modest extension of the fifty zone would address a growing concern in an area that has expanded its commercial activity with the opening of Crossroads Cycle in the former Seagull Pewter property.
Martin said there is more traffic now than when the speed zone was established. Not only is there added traffic, but most do more than the posted 80 km/h in both directions.
The speed zone currently changes on the hill between the village border and the fire hall—fifty km/h heading into the village and eighty as you leave.
The commission proposes the fifty zone be extended a few hundred metres to the south, to include the stretch with the fire hall, the Hilltop Motel and Crossroads Cycle.
Martin says the matter is of more concern when firefighters are responding to an emergency situation.
