Pugwash Receives Royal Award for Spirit
Pugwash will receive the 2023 Lieutenant-Governor's Community Spirit Award.
It is one of four recipients, along with Greenville in Yarmouth County, New Waterford, and Sambro in HRM.
Arthur J. LeBlanc said, “I am delighted to recognize communities that have gone above and beyond to foster long-term engagement, provide support to residents, and preserve their unique history.” The Lt.-Gov. added, “Their commitment to positive change and collective growth is inspirational and I look forward to presenting the awards over the coming weeks.”
The Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism, and Heritage administers the award program. Recipients are chosen by a selection committee based on evidence of citizen engagement, civic pride, and a positive outlook on the future of the community.
Fifty communities have received the award since the program was established in 2007 by then lieutenant-governor Mayann Francis.
The award recognises the “Community of Pugwash” which is more than the Village of Pugwash. The formal presentation is set for September.
