Pugwash Struggles to Get Past COVID Restrictions
Pugwash will hold an election in July and an annual meeting in August, both delayed by COVID.
The vote is part of the village system that calls for staggered elections—two seats, then two seats, then one over three years—to provide continuity on the five member commission.
The seat currently held by Roger Mundle has technically expired but the election was postponed in May due to COVID restrictions and concerns.
Details of the nomination process, date, and intended voting day will be released soon.
Meanwhile, the village is also proceeding with its annual meeting. It was postponed in June but village officials hope that COVID will not be a factor for a gathering early in August, a meeting that may require a larger room than the boardroom at the Village Hall.
The AGM is an opportunity for ratepayers to review detailed financial and summary reports from the village and the committees and organizations active in the community.
And speaking of gatherings, after months of meeting online through video conferencing, the village leaders met tonight in person. The village commission met on the Harbourfront stage in Eaton Park.
Current COVID rules are more flexible for outdoor gatherings and the stage provides a great setting for those directly involved and for others who may want to watch the proceedings.
Of course, weather can be a friend or foe when it comes to outdoor functions. While tonight’s setting offered a typically gorgeous Pugwash sunset, the wind played havoc with the paper work on the exposed stage. Still, all things considered, a breezy meeting in the park is still much preferred over gazing at the screen of a stuttering computer.
