Pugwash Water System Nets Engineers Award
The Pugwash water system has garnered a prestigious award for engineering excellence from Nova Scotia’s Lieutenant Governor.
A video of the announcement was played online at tonight’s municipal council meeting. His Excellency, Arthur J. LeBlanc, noted the high quality of professional engineering standards in providing a safe drinking water supply to the community.
LeBlanc noted that the area depended on individual wells, many of which were unsafe due to higher levels of arsenic, heavy metals, and other contaminants in the local underground water table.
The county engineer, Justin Waugh-Cress and an engineer from WST, the company that delivered the project, made a presentation to Engineers Nova Scotia, the professional governing body for the province.
The Pugwash water supply was then nominated for the annual award and joined Nova Scotia Power as the 2020 recipients.
