Red Cross Urges Pink, But Just Tomorrow
PINK DAY 2018
The Red Cross Service Care Coordinator in Amherst says, “Our Pink Day 2018 theme is #BeSomeonesHero.”
It’s a message that is at the root of Pink Day, which began when two ordinary high school students became a hero to a bullied student by rallying their peers in a show of support.
Angela Lohnes says, “It’s also at the root of our work in Respect Education, where we empower youth and adults to be heroes in their schools and communities by teaching them to prevent bullying and promote healthy relationships.”
Pink Day has come a long way since its humble Nova Scotia beginning. People everywhere are now encouraged to wear pink as a sipent statement against bullying.
Lohnes says, “The idea that we all have the power to Be Someone’s Hero is a message that resonates across our organization. Our personnel are living proof of this message as they help the most vulnerable in times of need, as they teach life-saving skills, and as they strengthen individual and community resilience.”
The Red Cross will gladly give up its red in favour of pink tomorrow, and you are invited to join them. Share your Pink Day celebrations with the world by posting on social media using the hashtags #PinkDay and #BeSomeonesHero.
